Huia Vineyard - Marlborough

Huia Vineyard

Claire and Mike Allan were drawn to Marlborough by the potential of making wines with intense fruit flavours and elegance. They bought the land in 1990 and released the first wines 7 years later.

They have a strong philosophy that the creation of good wine and understanding and caring for the environment go hand in hand.

Claire and Mike’s focus on managing the vineyard organically and biodynamically has been a key part of this voyage of understanding the land, protecting its vitality and making beautiful wines. With this commitment they have been able to produce hand crafted, quality wines in the most natural way possible, helping define the potential of Marlborough.

Sauvignon Blanc is one of Huia’s speciality wines. The wine is made not overtly fruity, but with great texture and the ability to develop with age. A portion of the wine is aged in large oak vats on the lees, giving the wine extra structure and its subtle power. This is a wine of true class with great typicity, is relatively dry and very food friendly.

Amongst their other wines can be found a barrel fermented traditional sparkling wine, a selection of dry, ‘Alsatian’ style aromatics (Pinot Gris and Gewürztraminer) a Botrytised Riesling and an elegant Pinot Noir.
