Te Whare Ra Vineyard - Marlborough

Te Whare Ra Vineyard

Te Whare Ra is one of the oldest vineyards in Marlborough and was originally planted with Chardonnay, Gewürztraminer and Riesling. When current owners Jason and Anna Flowerday bought the vineyard in 2003, they saw the opportunity to restore and improve a relatively ‘old vine’ vineyard that had been one of Marlborough’s boutique, cult vineyards.

With Jason growing up in Marlborough and Anna in McLaren Vale, South Australia, and both hailing from wine backgrounds, it was as natural as breathing that they ended up with our own winery.

Following organic and biodynamic farming and companion planting practices, Jason and Anna were able to not only rejuvenate the quality of the vines but also created a healthy environment to bring up a young family. Amongst their many wine achievements they also produced 2 sets of twin girls! So life is pretty busy at Te Whare Ra!

All the wines are made with minimal intervention in a small winery which has been specifically set up for small batch winemaking. Te Whare Ra now produces 8 different wines: a Gewürztraminer, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, an aromatic blend called Toru, Pinot Noir and Syrah.
